This still life features my study of a Bronze Hydria -an incredible Greek vessel from Pharsala (c. 350 BC).
I was really aiming to capture the aged surface-the patina. I experimented with watercolour and pencil to try and recreate that gorgeous, oxidised blue-green texture.
The vessel itself is covered in history; the relief shows the dramatic Greek myth of the North Wind, Boreas, abducting the princess Orithyia. I loved placing such an ancient, heavy object next to the fragility of dried flowers- mostly Delphiniums.
Done on heavyweight cartridge paper using colored pencils, watercolor, acrylic, and soft pastels, it measures 34 x 50.5 cm. The piece is mounted on white and grey-coloured paper and framed in gold.
Signed on both the front and the back. Signature on the back of the drawing includes the title and year.
If you end up having questions about this piece, even most basic questions, please don't hesitate to contact me through instagram (@faeandmuse) or e-mail me at info@parigadimli.uk. I'll be happy to answer!
